heART Quilt 101 Monday 6:30 - 9:30 $70 Jane Eileen
Student Level: Beginner - Intermediate but fun for all!
Type of Workshop: Process and Project
|
Whether you have played around with art quilts before, you are looking for a nudge to get started, or you just like projects you can have in your lap to work on, this is a great, colorful, fun project. You will begin by choosing between two provided patterns. You will then fuse your selected small fabric scraps to the basic shape(s) chosen followed by fusing the shape(s) to the middle layer. Embellishment will be done with simple, decorative stitches which will be demonstrated, as well as detailed in the take home handout. Fabric phrases and strips will be stitched on and the piece attached to the bottom felt layer, followed by the additions of a decorative hanger to make the wall hanging complete. The second pattern can be taken away for a future creation, perhaps a gift for a special someone. Jane will also explain how you can very simply create your own fabric phrases at home.
Kit Fee of $10 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- one hanger - choose from a variety of styles
- fusing materials
- cutter quilt used in middle layer
- fabric phrase strip
- label for backside like shown in photo
Supplies Provided by Instructor:
- iron & ironing board
- detailed instructions with drawings
- 2 different patterns: one for house and one for heart
- a small supply of embroidery floss that students might need in addition to the floss on the supply list
- fabric markers to personalize labels
- 5 sewing machines and sewing machine thread to share (Students will only need a machine for approximately five minutes, so students need not bring their own machine unless they wish to. Jane loves helping out anyone unfamiliar with machine sewing.)
Students should bring:
- a small supply of fabric scraps in your colors of choice, total enough to cover a 9x12 inch area is plenty
- one 9x12" piece of black felt or a color that coordinates with your fabric scraps
- fabric scissors
- straight pins
- sharp embroidery needle with an eye large enough to hold embroidery floss
- 3 hanks of embroidery floss that coordinate with fabric scraps and felt
