Come join Encaustic Artist, Linda McNulty, and find out how easy and fun it is to play with warm encaustic wax! Creating in a relaxed environment focused on play and experimentation, you will be guided through the wondrous process of creating your own Wearable Shrine made of luminous Encaustic Wax! Learn new techniques developed by Linda which involve the simple casting of personal mementos in Encaustic Wax, compatible faux finishes and the the fun of Embedding and Collage! Together we will discover your shrine’s individual personality, and together we will transform our shrines and ourselves!
Encaustic Art is experiencing a revival among artists, since lying dormant in the Egyptian tombs. The process entails the painting and pouring of warm, pigmented beeswax and tree sap, which is then layered and scraped, revealing its naturally luminous and transparent nature. Encaustic Painting is combined with the wearable form for the first time in Linda McNulty’s work and classes.
Kit fee of $25 payable to Instructor at class time includes:
- all the supplies necessary to make one gorgeous Wearable Encaustic Shrine
Instructor will provide supplies for sharing:
- encaustic wax
- griddles
- a few embossing heat guns
- wax-scraping and incising tools
- brushes
- bezels
- collage images
- Jeweler’s Grade Molding Putty
- wire
- ribbon
- color finishes and sparkles
Students are encouraged to bring:
- an embossing heat gun (craft store)
- wire shaping and cutting tools
- tiny personal objects for casting including found hardware and rusty old metal
- a small tin (like Starbucks mints or gum tins) and an even tinier tin for embedding if you can find it (if you can’t find it, there are tons of options!)
- charms, beads and trinkets (for embedding or dangling off their shrine)
- any personal imagery for collage (2-4 inches)
Encaustic supplies, Bezels and Luminous Encaustic Kits will be available for purchase after class.
