In honor of the release of my very own new book, Modern Mark Making, it’s time to get your funk on with your hand lettering! It’s my belief that calligraphic letters can be done easily and quickly and what matters more than the correctness of a letter is its spirit! Words are our vehicles and letters are what make the message sing.
A lot of introducing to cool new pens, paints and sparkly things will happen here. Letters will range from Basic Black Gothic, Scripty, Scrawly with a bit of urban flava’d alphabets thrown in Spray, splotch, play! Gigundo mark making and there’s really no right or wrong! Hand outs and samples bound into a sampler book with rustic covers and binding. Just a taste here of the multitude of the possibilities that will add zing and bling to your work! (ok no more rhyming!)
Materials Fee of $10 payable to instructor at class time includes: metallic powders, inks, walnut ink, stickles, quickie glue pens, foil, pen nibs, play paper
Supply List:
-Pens-what do you already have? Bring it! (think weird) -ball-point pens, gel pens, markers, micron, Pitt
-Pencils, regular (different hardnesses) Colored, watercolor
-Brushes-old, hairy, flat and pointed-what you have!
-Calligraphy pens you have (I will have a lot of tools to try)
-Papers with various surfaces-smooth, rough, good quality-your scraps-maybe strange surfaces to experiment on-you can also work in your journal
-Eye dropper or pipette
-Foam brush
-One pen nib holder and one C0 Speedball Pen nib (holder not for crow quill but regular calligraphy pen points)
-A variety of mediums, gouache, watercolors, inks, acrylic inks-what you have (I don’t want you to buy a lot of stuff here)
-Plastic pallette-6 well or 8 well
-Any potential letter making tool you may encounter
-Words and quotes that inspire you
