Learn to draw simply but expressive Folk Art faces that you can use in a million different ways. We will learn how to use some simple tools and ways to get your faces down quickly so you can move on to the creative side of painting. Learn that it's ok to use funky colors, trust your instincts and let the painting guide you. This is a "break the rules" kind of painting mix media workshop. I will also show you different ideas and ways you can use these fun paintings to create other types of art. I will also bring templates in that you can work from and take home to keep building your skill level. This workshop always draws lots of creative ideas and suggestion from others in the class. With this form of art you can use almost any kind of basic art supplies you have in your home, in fact I like to just use colored pencils and whatever I can reach for at the moment when I do these.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

  • $10.00

Instructor Provided (for use in-class, and to share):

  • Templates to take home, trace or copy forever
  • Handouts on step by step creating a one of a kind folk art girl
  • Medium
  • Stencils
  • Some ephemera and other stuff you can add to your work

Student should bring:

  • Acrylic Paints in a mix of colors (bring 5 or six of your favorites. Craft paint works fine)
  • Acrylic Paint - flesh and white or gesso
  • Brushes- one small for detail and 3-4 medium size
  • Canvas or artist panel 9X12 (you can go a little bigger if you want)
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Ephemera, scrapes of old books, maps, paper, anything handy that you might want to add to your work
  • If you have one, heat gun (not necessary but does help speed up the drying time)
  • I also like to work with Prisma colored pencils and gel pens. Again not necessary but I can show you what you can do with them in this class.
  • Small scissors
