To mirror is to give a faithful representation, image, or idea of a person, an emotion. Mirroring can help you create powerful connections with others, in much the same way an invisible red thread connects those of us who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. Let's connect in this Mary Oliver inspired bookmaking class.

Using the words and poetry of Mary Oliver as your mirror, you will begin the day by reflecting and musing upon her words, writing and wisdom, and then, reflecting inward, gather, record and shape your uniquely personal physical, emotional and spiritual responses to them.

Mid-morning we will spend time marking, painting, sizing and preparing a total of 8-12 pages in anticipation of your afternoon book creation. I'll slip in my no-fail found poetry source and secrets and you'll create a line or two to add to your book. The focus of the day is not on technique, although you will learn new, or new ways, to use a few. Our mission for this uplifting day will be to open up, dive deep and connect emotionally with Mary's poetry and yourself; to pour your passion into your visibly, physically, texturally palpable, evocative and stunning handmade book - a mirror of your beautiful self.

Begin now. Pull a book of Mary's poetry off your shelf, or your library's shelf. Read. Visit poetseers.com. Listen to Mary at onbeing.org. Watch her on YouTube. Get to know her better than you do now. Focus on getting to know yourself through her words.

Gather. Tear Mary Oliver inspired magazine pages with the colors, imagery, sparks of emotion and language you love. Fondle your stash and draw out the fabrics and fibers, prize pearls and papers, scraps and snippets of past projects that intimately suggest (or mirror) one, two or three of your favorite Oliver poems. Dig deeper if you must to marry yourself to the messages, memories and magic you find in Mary's words.
