In Zen aesthetics, there is often a mysterious depth and complexity, but how could we achieve that look in our paintings? Texture is an important Zen element. You will be shown many ways to begin the layering and texturing process. Sometimes, you will completely cover up a layer and others times, you will let some layers show through... but all layers are necessary as they will bring more depth and mystery to your paintings.

Participants are asked to bring whatever paints they use and they will be invited to add collage if they wish. Composition, design elements and principles will be introduced. Come spend the two days experimenting and discover the wonderful world of layering with Zen elements.

Student should bring:

  • Paints: acrylic paints recommended for quick drying and layer purposes...any colors
  • Brushes: prefer 1" and 2" flat brushes but whatever you use
  • Spray bottles (2): one filled with water and one filled with rubbing alcohol
  • Wax paper and paper towels and water container
  • Tissue papers: white
