** From Type Learn a variety of techniques, ideas and approaches as you work on a specially developed project in this workshop. You will learn ideas and techniques that can be applied to ANY art form.

Our journals hold bits and pieces of ourselves. So often they sit on our shelves ready to unveil their beauty and secrets to us. What if we took the book form and created an art journal that could be shared and displayed (if, and when, we wanted to share?) How do we let go and create authentic and vibrant pages that buzz with our creative spirit?

You will create an accordion fold book with layers of paint, paper, text and more. Learn how to open up authentically and visually onto your pages. We will also discuss other possible structures before we work on the pages. Step outside of your box and comfort zone in this creative and enriching workshop.

Kit/Materials Fee (payable to instructor at class time):

  • None

Instructor Provided (for use in-class, and to share):

  • I will be bringing a wide selection of rubber stamps, ink pads, stencils, acrylics, acrylic mediums and collage materials. You're always welcome to bring your own supplies to use but this is a small heads up that I tend to bring everything but the kitchen sink in my classes!

Student should bring:

  • an apron
  • scissors
  • a small selection of favorite collage ephemera (think about reading this when choosing your images and papers)
  • bone folder
  • cork-backed metal ruler
  • a full roll of paper towels OR old rags
  • permanent black ink pad (only if you have one)
  • a container for your paint water
  • 1 to 2" brush to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes) as well as a few, smaller, detailed brushes
  • a few of your favorite glue sticks (large glue sticks will last you longer)
  • roll of waxed paper OR an old catalog or magazine to glue on (if you don't want to use all of your waxed paper for this.)

Some workshops may require that you bring supplies or tools that you may not presently possess. If you'd like to place an advance order for jewelry supplies & tools for pick-up at the on-site store when you arrive at AU, contact:
