Day 1 - Katherine (9 hours). The first day Katherine will guide students through all the steps of creating from scratch their own working journal. By day's end students will be knowledgeable in skills involving correct paper tearing, signature-making as well as master the double coptic stitch. We will decorate the inside covers in collage and even adorn the spine with beads and brilliant ephemera. With our new book finished we begin to fill it with a lesson on strengthening your artist's eye, as well as how to have a little fun with watercolors (time permitting). Skills learned in this collaborative workshop will open the door to a lifetime of your own handmade personal journals.

Day 2 - Laurie (6 hours). In this second half of this collaborative workshop, students will create beautiful polymer clay mosaic covers for their Gothic-shaped journal that was created in Katherine England's workshop. Inspired by the gothic arch shape, students will be guided through the process of creating a variety of tiles that will be put together at the end of the day to create a mosaic journal cover. Techniques include stamping on clay, painting clay, embedding jewelry and metal findings, using gold leaf and creating successful transfers on clay. This will be a journal that is both beautiful inside and out!
