Most people love the experience of traveling to far off destinations. While traveling we hunt and gather to create memories. What are left behind are objects and photos often stored away either in shoeboxes, iPhones, or become random mental images and thoughts that fade or change over time. This course will introduce students to the vast variety of artistic Travel Journals. Students will learn visual journaling, sketching, watercolor, and mixed-media techniques and how to incorporate these skills into a journal; to create aesthetically rich pages with mementos gathered on trips; and how to incorporate personal thoughts into their artwork. Once completed the journal becomes a gift: the gift of knowing more about someone, their thoughts, and the world through their eyes.

In this workshop you can choose to create a journal that focuses on only one trip/vacation or mix it up and include multiple adventures. For example, say you traveled to Germany and only want to focus on that location; or say you took a road trip up the California coast and want to focus on all the locations you explored along the way; perhaps you traveled a lot during a particular year and wish to dedicate your book to a year's worth of traveling, the options are endless!

The morning will be spent prepping journal pages to create a few different surfaces to work on. The afternoon will be spent learning many of my journaling techniques, both while I am on location as well as after I return home. I will provide guided techniques to create aesthetically interesting page layouts through the use of drawing, painting, collage, and mixed-media.
