In this Intermediate class learn the processes of fusing and how it differs from soldering. Learn when to fuse and when to solder, how to make a bail with framed edges, bezel setting, set a cabochon stone, and fuse granulation. Janet brings extra tools for last minute registrations. Learn fusing Argentium Silver granulation from expert jeweler, Janet Alexander the 2015 Saul Bell Finalist. With her 40 years of experience in working with metals, Janet passes on her tricks and tips on working with metals. Supplies Provided by Teacher: Wire cutters, torches, kiln bricks, charcoal blocks, lighters, third hands, locking tweezers, copper tongs, needle nose pliers, Wubbers small bail making pliers, extra saw frames and blades, bench pins, C clamps, metal shears, Joyce Chen scissors, regular scissors, extra burnisher, reciprocating hammer, extra bench blocks, steel rulers, extra flat files, sanding drums, flex shafts and keys, solder stations, solder picks, granulation vise, granulation screen, pickle pot, extra extension plugs, fuel, torches, containers for yellow flux, solder shears, hotplate, fire extinguisher, small buff and wheels, and extra tools for last minute signup students.

  • 24 gauge Argentium sheet (2" x 2"), 26 gauge Argentium sheet (1.5" x .5"), 18 gauge Argentium round wire (4"), silver bezel wire (3.5"), 1mm Argentium granules (43ea), tongue depressor, 320 grit sandpaper, silver solder, dental string, torch fuel, liver of sulfur, rubber cement, pickle, paper towels, flux, and a printed class handout.

Student should bring:

  • 18 mm Cabachon
  • Flush cut wire cutters
  • fine flat file
  • needle nose pliers
  • Wubbers small bail making pliers
  • jewelers saw frame and 4/0 blades
  • burnisher
  • small needle files
  • fine tipped tweezers
  • fine tipped permanent marker
