In this 3-day workshop, Kirsten and Lynn will lead students in creating a 28" cage skirt Santos doll and a decorative platform on which to display the Santos, using a multitude of mixed media techniques and figurative sculpting. First, students will learn how to create realistic heads, arms, and hands from air dry clay and creating jointed connections. If you have NEVER sculpted, this is your chance to learn while exploring the importance of gesture and expression as important narrative tools. Anatomy and proportion will be reviewed in class so prior figurative experience is not necessary. Beginners and all levels welcome.

Lynn will provide a wooden cube base for your Santos and guide you through the process of reverse painting on glass tiles that will be used to decorate this platform. Reverse painting is the process of painting on one side of the glass but viewing through the opposite side. It sounds confusing, but it really is easy once you see the process. This is for the beginner as well as the more proficient painter. A step-by-step guide of decorative patinas, collage and painting will also be provided.

Over the three days, Lynn and Kirsten will guide the class in a vast array of mixed media techniques including: reverse glass painting, collage, patina painting, and more to create your own personalized narrative Santos.
