Learning to be spontaneous in our painting means more than just throwing around some paint and water, although that is sure a lot of fun! We will do some of that while we learn and follow some very specific step-by-step instructions. Spontaneity happens with lots of planning. Using some methods that I have found to be non-threatening and fun, we will practice using some interesting textures, stencils, and found materials. This is a time for you to play and explore and discover all that watercolor can do and we will be thinking outside the box. Painting on canvas adds another interesting element. I will provide photo references but it would be good if each student brought along some photos as well. Look for photographs with a strong light source and definite shadows. Landscapes, florals, and animals, are all good subjects. If you are not confident in your drawing skills, we will transfer your images to the canvas.
